It's only supported by Canon and Adobe software at the moment unlike the older CR2 which virtually I like using RawTherapee but unfortunately it doesn't support the format yet. I've been using Adobe DNG converter to convert the CR3's to DNG for use.

I just wanted to let you know that we do plan to support CR3 files as well and this will be fixed in our future updates. Initially I wasn’t a fan of the new format as it wastes a lot of space for unnecessary things (like duplicated metadata parts and an embedded, smaller resolution RAW image), but there’s one single feature that changed my view entirely.
