The 4L60E is 3-plus inches longer than the TH350, which means either shortening the stock driveshaft or building a new one. We opted to have Inland Empire build a new shaft, based on careful ...

Drake, the length of the AA 4L60E adapter may get the front drive shaft upper u-joint completely behind the tranny oil pan, but even if it doesn't, AA sells the smaller upper u-joints. I believe their joint kit is about 3" diameter, Downey use to make one that was about 2 3/4" diameter.
700r4 compares to a 4L60e about like a 283 compares to an LS9. The 4L60e can hold 700 HP, built right, and the 4L80e makes it look like a sissy. Either is capable of 20+ mpg, with a 3.08 gear. Both will tow just fine. Both can last 200k miles. Ever install a shift kit? Both use those, too, but now you can tune every aspect of transmission

Just recently I had my 4L60e go out on my truck (2000 silverado 1500). Ive been too hesitant to go to a trans shop as I hear terrible stories and huge bills. While debating my options I came across a diesel shop owner who said his friend had a built 4L80 with a standalone system out of a 4wd like...

The front of the shaft is just a straight tube with U-joint flanges on the ends. Infact the current one is a recycled shortened Chevy truck 1-piece shaft (might just shorten it again with a 1350 flange on the front) since I had to get a longer shaft due to moving the engine/trans 3.5in forward to clear the suspension with the old R4 compressor.
Used this on a 4L60E to 4L80E swap and worked perfect. The specs that Summit has on this product isn't correct though. Ihad looked this up on Strong's website first and got the specs for the ujoint there.

Feb 21, 2006 · Hey folks, like the title says i'm lookin to put a 4l60E into my camaro. I've decided on the 4l60E bc it is cheaper (i can get a used one), and can change the shift points on it (or so i'm told). My question is what all would i need for this conversion? Also, I wouldn't mind if anyone would like to suggest a different overdrive setup.

  • Jun 12, 2014 · Finally started working on the connecting the driveline and realized the slip yoke I have (TH400) is different from the 4l60e. I have the stock driveshaft, anyone know what the u joint sizes are or would it be best to hit the part store and verify prior to ordering a new yoke?

  • With 5 extensions and a u-joint it was cake, except some asshole at GM decided to put two nuts on the top one. That and the upper half ones were 13mm and the lowers were 15mm so i spent 30 min trying to use a 15mm socket on the 13mm nut.

Apr 19, 2018 · The 4L80E is longer than the 4L60E, so you’ll have to get the driveshaft shortened in order to get it to play nice with your vehicle. Again, if the 4L80E was an option on the vehicle that you were thinking about swapping it into, than it would probably be more cost-effective to go to the salvage yard and grab the driveshaft there. You do need a slip yoke in a passenger car just like any other transmission. Due to suspension movement, there has to be a slip joint somewhere. Only vehicles with a two-piece shaft with center support have a bolt in, like the truck/van that the 4L80E likely came out of. On those, the slip joint is at the connection between the two shafts.

Aug 15, 2012 · Driveshaft -- it will need cut if you have a TH400. I dreaded this part. But it turned out to be the easiest. I found a local truck shop that specialized in Dana/Spicer gear and they had a balance shop right there. In about 4 hours, the shortened by drive shaft, installed new u-joints, and replaced the carrier bearing.
